Selfica: The Damanhurian use of metals in healing

The healing techniques of the ‘Damanhurian Tradition’ include pranatherapy and deep breathing, hypnosis and relaxation, massage and self massage, coloured light baths linked with sound (phono-chromatherapy) and the use of Selfica.

Selfica is the creation of structures made from metals and specially prepared liquids and inks, which use the spiral as their base unit. These structures are employed for protecting and rehabilitating various physical and psychical functions. The development of Selfic research is one of the most important, original and characteristic directions of Damanhurian medicine.

From Lori's Texture & Application in Paint using Yin/Yang

Using varying degrees of texture to enliven oil or acrylic artwork. Application of paint can range anywhere between transparent to opaque or thin to thick.

How to create thin and transparent texture: Yin

Use extra medium for thinning paint
Dark, cool shadows need transparent paint
Use warm transparent hues where the shadows meet the light

How to create thick and opaque (impasto) texture: Yang
Use a heavily loaded bristle brush
Put the paint down and leave it alone.
Let the brush make its mark
Use thicker texture to create form and highlights

Glazing to give the dry painting more depth.

Allow the paint to dry, then use a softer brush loaded with transparent glazes and lightly drag across the dried impasto. The glaze will puddle in the valleys made by the bristle brush. Or use a lint-free cloth/towel and carefully wipe the glaze off the peaks of the impasto. This technique allows the light to shine through the layers of paint and add an air of mystery to your work.

Butterfly Crop Circle

This stunningly beautiful image of what has been called a Mothman or Human Butterfly appeared in a field in Goes, The Netherlands on August 8 2009.

It shows a clear reference to Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man forming the body of a huge butterfly. It’s the largest crop circle to be recorded, measuring 530 x 450 meters * Something like 4 football fields.

I’m not ashamed to say that I absolutely love crop circles * Regardless of how they are formed.

As a visual artist I see simply see them as stunning images, laden with symbolism. And my feeling is that we respond to the beauty of these images/symbols because of our innate resonance with higher mathematical laws.

At the beginning of this new year and decade 2010 what better way to illustrate our hope for our personal and collective transformation than to use the symbolism of a butterfly?

Kseniya Simonova is an Ukrainian artist who won Ukraine's Got Talent 2009 with this performance of her art.

Using a giant light box, Kseniya combined her imaginative and skillful sand painting techniques with dramatic music, to interpret Germany's invasion and occupation of Ukraine during WWII.

With expressive imagery she tells the story of a couple that met before the Second World War and were then separated by it.

The pillar with a star on top represents the monument that was used in many countries like Ukraine for their fallen soldiers.

And the video concluded with ‘We are Always Together’ 1945 * With Apocaliptica with 4 chelo's playing Metallica's ‘Nothing Else Matters.’

Kseniya’s every gesture, from lighting the first candle to lightly sprinkling or dramatically tossing sand is emotive and artistic. Bringing tears to the eyes of her audience: Both live and video.

Schapelle Corby became a household name in Australia after her arrest in 2004 on charges of importing 4.2 kg of marijuana into Bali. Her subsequent trial and guilty verdict were covered extensively in the Australian news, and in 2005 there was a groundswell of support from all over Australia due to the inconsistencies in the evidence against her.

The weakness of the case against Schapelle was compounded by the fact that the Indonesian prosecutors could not offer a single piece of forensic evidence to support their case, despite repeated requests for it from Schapelle and her defense team. The marijuana was not tested for its origin, finger prints were not taken and CCTV footage was mysteriously unavailable. The case against Schapelle was based exclusively on circumstantial evidence.

The final twist was a trial by media which occurred when the Australian media turned a convenient blind eye to the truth and used their influence to convict Schappelle in the eyes of the Australian people.

Jo Buchanan an advocate of SANE Australia visited Schapelle in Kerobokan Prison in September and was shocked to see 'the terrifying world of insanity Schapelle now exhibits.'

'There is no doubt that her behavior is that of someone with a serious psychosis, who isn't getting the correct medical treatment.' Jo Buchanan.
